Q: Are your products truly vegan?
A: Absolutely! We do no animal testing, and use no ingredients derived from either animals or insects. Kim Erickson’s Everyday Organics also does not use common skin care ingredients like collagen, elastin, placenta, hyaluronic acid or ceramides that require killing vertebrates.
Q: How are your products preserved?
A: Many conventional preservatives can break down to form formaldehyde or have been found to disrupt hormones. Our products, on the other hand, are formulated with a nontoxic preservative system, which includes phenoxyethanol from sage leaves, food grade potassium sorbate, and antimicrobial essential oils that provide a natural resistance to spoilage. In addition, we use high-tech manufacturing facilities that minimize exposure to contaminants, microbial testing of the finished products and packaging that supports the stability of each product. Our natural approach to formulating and manufacturing our products reflects our commitment to never use synthetic preservatives. Because we use natural preservatives, however, our products will not last as long as conventional cosmetics.
Q: Do your products contain phthalates?
A: No. We do not use dibutyl or diethylhexyl phthalates or other synthetic plasticizers in the products created by Kim Erickson’s Everyday Organics. These reproductive toxins have been found to accumulate in the body and cause birth defects.
Q: I've noticed than many “natural”cosmetics use paraben preservatives. Does Kim Erickson’s Everyday Organics use parabens?
A: No. While parabens were considered safe for many years, recent studies show that they mimic estrogen and may accumulate in the body’s fatty tissue.
Q: Why don't you use lanolin?
A: Our reasons are two-fold: First, lanolin is not a vegan ingredient since it is derived from the wool of sheep. Second, lanolin is often contaminated with pesticide residue which can be absorbed into the skin.
Q: What is the typical shelf-life of your products?
A: Unlike conventional cosmetics, which use synthetic preservatives to keep their products fresh for 2 to 3 years, our products rely on preservatives derived from nature. As a result, most of our products have a shelf-life of 12 to 18 months. To ensure that the product you receive are fresh and active, all of our products are made in small batches on a weekly basis.
Q: How long will it be until I see a difference after I begin using Kim Erickson’s Everyday Organics?
A: The length of time it takes to restore healthy skin depends on the condition of the skin, which products are used and certain lifestyle factors such as diet or smoking. However, many women report that a daily regimen of cleansing, toning and moisturizing with Kim Erickson’s Everyday Organics can produce noticeable effects within the first month of use.
Q: What is a "patch test" and why should I perform one?
A: A patch test checks for skin sensitivities or allergic reactions by applying a small amount of the product to the inside of your arm. If, after 24 hours, no reaction manifests itself, the product may be safely used. If you have a history of allergies or sensitivities, it is important to perform a patch test to avoid an unwanted reaction to any cosmetic, even if that product is labeled as hypoallergenic.
Q: I have nut allergies. Can I still use your products?
A: While we do not use any type of peanut products, many of our skincare products do contain ingredients derived from almonds. If you have a nut allergy, check the ingredient label and talk with your health care provider before using these products.
Q: Help! I have sensitive skin. Which products should I use?
A: Because Kim Erickson’s Everyday Organics contain only pure plant ingredients, many of our products are appropriate for sensitive skin. You may, however, wish to avoid any of our products that contain exfoliating ingredients as these may exacerbate pre-existing skin conditions.
Q: Are any of your products scent-free?
A: Yes. Kim Erickson’s Everyday Organics includes several scent-free options, such as our Humidité Unscented, Rebirth Ultimate Eye Crème and all of our facial serums. We are currently working on a totally unscented skincare line to be available sometime in the future.
Q: Are your products non-comedogenic?
A: Although the term non-comedogenic is not legally defined, the Food and Drug Administration states that a “non-comedogenic” product should not contain common pore-clogging ingredients that could lead to acne. Our products do not clog the pores.
Q: Is Kim Erickson’s Everyday Organics a signer of the Safe Cosmetics Compact?
A: Yes. Cosmetic safety and purity is a very serious matter to us. We are committed to making only the highest quality natural cosmetics and signed the Compact in 2007.
